330kV transmission line “Grobina-Ventspils” has been ceremonially commissioned

On August 27, 2014 in 330kV substation "Ventspils" ceremonial commissioning of the transmission network project new 330 kV transmission line "Kurzeme Ring" stage Grobiņa – Ventspils took place. This project will significantly increase the security of supply in Latvia and particularly in the Western region. The new and modern 330 kV transmission line in Kurzeme region is connecting the reconstructed 330 kV substation "Grobiņa" and the newly constructed 330 kV substation "Ventspils".
2019 is planned to be commissioning year for the last stage of "Kurzeme Ring", connecting the 330kV substations Ventspils, Tume and Imanta. Thus, the project will connect the Central part Latvian power system with the Western part and improve the power supply as well as strengthen the Lithuanian and Swedish interconnection operation. Project "Kurzeme Ring" stage "Ventspils-Tume-Imanta” is an important infrastructure project in the Baltic Sea region, and has been included in the list of projects of common interest of the EU Regulation Nr.1391/2013 framework. On July of 2014 Latvian transmission system operator "Augstsprieguma tikls" AS together with Latvian transmission network owners "Latvijas elektriskie tikli" AS have made an join application to the co-financing for stage "Ventspils-Tume-Imanta" according to European Union Regulation Nr.1316/2013.
Project "Kurzeme Ring" will allow the integration of the Baltic electricity transmission networks in Europe, together with the interconnections from Finland to Estonia, from Estonia to Latvia from Lithuania to Sweden and from Lithuania to Poland. “Kurzeme Ring” in conjunction with the planned 3-rd Estonian-Latvian 330kV interconnection projects will play vital role in ensuring Latvian and Baltic energy independence.
