As part of the synchronisation project, over 500 km of 330 kV lines in Latvia have been newly built or fully rebuilt.
Energy infrastructure project completed in 2019.
330 kV overhead power line built in the western part of Latvia to enable high power connections of electricity producers and consumers in Kurzeme which had not been possible before now.
Part of the major Baltic – Nordic countries – “NordBalt” – project.
Newly built in 2020, the 330 kV line from Estonia to Rīga TEC-2 in Latvia has entered service
The interconnection has significantly improved the reliability of electricity supply in both countries, increased the power allocated for electricity trading between countries and is a significant grid reinforcement in the context of the synchronisation project.
The line increased existing Estonia – Latvia cross-section transmission power by 600 MW.

Line Valmiera - Tartu
Entered service in 2023
As a result of reconstruction, throughput has increased from 650A to 1650A. Reconstruction of the Latvia-Estonia interconnection from Valmiera-Tartu has improved the reliability of Latvia and Estonia's national power supply, and delivered additional benefits to the electricity market, ensuring a bigger capability to import electricity from the Nordic countries and export Latvia's electricity generated from renewable energy sources.

Line Valmiera-Tsirguliina
As a result of the reconstruction of the Latvia-Estonia interconnection from Valmiera-Tsirguliina, the line's throughput has risen from 650A to 1650A. Similar to the connection from Valmiera-Tartu, in this case too, reconstruction has improved the reliability of Latvia and Estonia's national power supply and delivered additional benefits to the electricity market, ensuring a bigger capability to import electricity from the Nordic countries and export Latvia's electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
Entered service in 2024.
The Riga CHP-2 - Riga HPP project is the reinforcement of the internal network of Latvia to ensure full functionality of the Estonia-Latvia third interconnection not only under regular, but especially under emergency and repair modes. On a regional scale, this network reinforcement will play a substantial role in increasing the transfer capacity in the Baltic region in the North - South direction.
Project has been commissioned in November 2020.
