Additional way of connection to the power grid for electricity producers and users

Development

From now on, electricity producers and users, after evaluating their connection quality requirements and the potential connection location, when submitting an application for connection to the transmission system, will be able to choose between standard or simplified connection to the transmission network. Such possibility is foreseen by the amendments made to the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations of January 21, 2014 No. 50 "Regulations of sale and use of electricity".

The operator of the Latvian transmission system JSC "Augstsprieguma tīkls" explains that the standard solution a.k.a H-type scheme is often used for connections to the transmission system, which guarantees high reliability and consists of the construction of a new substation with four connections, which in case of a line damage does not affect the electricity supply of the system user. Soon, the system users will have the opportunity to connect to the transmission network using a simplified scheme connection, which consists of the construction of a new substation with one connection. It should be noted that the connection reliability of the simplified circuit is reduced - in case of line damage, the power supply to the system user is interrupted. By choosing this type of connection, the electricity producer or consumer assumes the risk of downtime in case of line damage or planned repair, but gets the opportunity to install the connection at 2-3 times lower costs than in the case of the H scheme connection, and the installation time is also shorter - 2 to 2.5 years from the application, while the installation of the standard or H scheme connection takes 3 years.

At the moment, JSC "Augstsprieguma tīkls" is developing and will soon publish on the company's website www.ast.lv the prerequisites for creating a simplified connection scheme and quality criteria in relation to the continuity of the connection, the time for preventing accidents, fluctuations in the network and other conditions. The contract for this type of connection can be concluded after the contract conditions are published.
