Starting in 2026, in addition to calculating cross-border transmission day-ahead and intraday capacity, the transmission system operators of the Baltic Capacity Calculation Region will also perform long-term time frames capacity calculations for the following year, month, or shorter periods, in accordance with the methodology approved by the Baltic regulatory authorities. The methodology also establishes new capacity calculation principles for interconnections within the Baltic Capacity Calculation Region.

This methodology has been agreed upon by the transmission system operators of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Finland, and Sweden, and its goal is to ensure an effective and coordinated calculation of capacity values. The methodology has been developed in line with the European Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/1719 of 26 September 2016 establishing a guideline on forward capacity allocation.
