Informative seminar about Nord Pool Spot bidding zone opening in Latvia

News

The Nordic power exchange Nord Pool Spot and the Latvian Transmission System Operator (TSO) JSC “Augstsprieguma tīkls” invites all stakeholders to take part in an informative seminar concerning the issues of launching the Latvian power bidding area on 3rdJune, 2013. The seminar will be held on 5th March, 2013.
The Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP), which was approved on 17th June, 2009 by signing a letter of intent between the European Union member states of the Baltic region and the European Commission, stipulates integration of the Baltic region energy markets into a single Nordic-Baltic energy market structure.
In order to reach this aim, it is crucial that all the Baltic States join the Nord Pool Spot power exchange. It is well known that Estonian bidding area was launched on 1st April, 2010, but in Lithuania the launching took place on 18th June, 2012. In Latvia it is expected to happen on 3rdJune, 2013.
Therefore, on 5th March, 2013, the power exchange Nord Pool Spot in partnership with JSC “Augstsprieguma tīkls” is organizing the seminar about the oncoming launching of the Latvian power bidding area. The seminar will provide information on Nord Pool Spot – its structure and functions, as well as tasks of TSO in determining and ensuring particular transmission capacities. However, the final stage of the Baltic integration into a single Nordic-Baltic energy market structure - launching the Latvian power bidding area, will be the main topic of the event.
