Information on Electricity Trading in NPS Latvian Import and Export Bidding Areas with Russia

News

As of 24 January 2014, Latvian Transmission System Operator (TSO) “Augstsprieguma tikls” (AST) in collaboration with “Nord Pool Spot” (NPS) and the Estonian Transmission System Operator “Elering” is planning to ensure capacity for trade within Latvian-Russian Import (LRI) and Export (LRE) bidding areas on the Latvian-Russian border.

The maximum interconnection capacity for electricity imports from Russia to Latvia is possible from 0 to 320 MW, whereas for exports from Latvia to Russia it is from 0 to 290 MW. Unused interconnection capacity for electricity import, after electricity import transactions, will be used for transactions on the Estonian-Latvian border.

Electricity market participants who are planning to trade electricity within the Latvian-Russian Import (LRI) and Export (LRE) bidding areas are expected to timely conclude with AST an "Additional agreement to the System Use and Balancing Agreement".
