Electricity infrastructure projects in Latvia will receive co-financing from EC

On October 29, 2014 European Commission (EC) and Energy Commission of Connection European Facility (CEF) evaluated the co-financing applications by energy Project promoters in order to receive co-financing under the framework of EU Regulation No 1316/2013 and made a decision to include in the list two strategically important power transmission system development projects of common interests in Latvia: „Internal transmission line between Ventspils, Tume and Imanta” and „Estonia-Latvia interconnection between Kilingi-Nomme and Riga”. During the next weeks official decision of co-financing for these Projects is expected from European Commission. Expected co-financing for the Project „Internal power transmission line between substations Ventspils, Tume and Imanta” is 55 MEUR or 45% of the total Project costs and for Project „Estonia-Latvia interconnection between Kilingi-Nomme and Riga” – 112,3 MEUR or 65% of the total Project costs.

Projects realized with the financial support from EU will help to integrate power systems of Baltic countries into internal energy markets of EU as well as serve as significant pre-condition to establish energy independence of Latvia and Baltic countries and is a part of the technical measures on the way to establish synchronous operation with the power systems of Europe.
