AST joins the Memorandum on Sustainable Energy Development and Improving Energy Efficiency

apliecinaajumsmemorands.jpgJSC “Augstsprieguma tīkls” (AST), as a socially responsible company and being driven towards sustainable development, today joined the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Economics, state administration institutions, non-governmental organisations and state capital companies. The memorandum envisages joint cooperation in achieving the goals of sustainable development and energy efficiency of energy, construction and housing accessibility, promoting the growth of the Latvian economy and the well-being of each of its inhabitants.

“We are pleased to be able to join in the development of sustainable energy and the improvement of the overall energy efficiency of the country. Our day-to-day operations focus on climate neutrality, which includes more efficient buildings, equipment and processes. New buildings and conversions are being built in accordance with the new requirements, technology and climate - neutral approach,” said Varis Boks, Chairman of the Board of AST, after signing the memorandum.

In order to improve the company's energy management, in 2016 AST developed, implemented and certified an energy management system in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 50001: 2011 standard. The energy management system extended the integrated management system introduced by AST, which has been operating since 2002 in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.

The main task of the memorandum initiated by the Ministry of Economics is to ensure the availability of information on the possibilities of renovation, reconstruction and increase of energy efficiency of buildings (residential, public and industrial). The signatories of the Memorandum undertake to implement the tasks included in it in an atmosphere of mutual collegiality and understanding, respecting the diversity of opinions and interests, ensuring the sustainable development perspective of the state of Latvia and achieving the European Union's overall energy efficiency goals, as well as promoting a change of habits, financial literacy and understanding of the environment. More than 30 governmental and non-governmental organisations have already joined the memorandum.
