Augstsprieguma tīkls AS is in charge of a transmission network receiving electricity from hydroelectric and thermal power stations of Latvia, as well as Lithuania, Estonia and Russia and transferring it further to the companies of distribution networks. Augstsprieguma tīkls AS manages 330 kV and 110 kV transmission lines, substations and distribution points located in the territory of Latvia.

Major characteristics of the current situation of the Transmission Network are a number of step-down substations and distribution points of high voltage in the certain part of the territory, which, in its turn, is characterized by a specific power demand therein, and corresponding network of transmission lines (330 kV and 110 kV), which also meets criteria for safety and economy of electricity supply. The number of objects mentioned as the first characteristic is close to the optimal number for the territory of Latvia at this stage of development of the national economy.
