One-Third of Construction Works Completed within Stage 3 of Project "Kurzeme Ring"

Development

en_cef_cofinancing.pngBy continuing the construction of stage three of the "Kurzeme Ring" power transmission line from Ventspils to Riga, currently more than 37% of line pylons have been constructed and 27% of conductors have been installed of the planned line length. Also, line stages from Kandava to Tume, from Dundaga to Valdemārpils and from Valdemārpils to Talsi have been switched to voltage and connected to the grid – in these stages disassembly of the existing 110 kV line has been initiated along the facilitation of the route.

"The works are progressing successfully and currently one third of the planned 711 power line pylons have already been installed. The reconstructed lines are mainly located in the current line route. 110 kV circuits step by step are connected to the network after the construction of the next stage. Therefore 330 kV transmission line operation will be started only after all the works completion, which is planned in 2019" AS Augstsprieguma tīkls Board Member Arnis Staltmanis tells about the progress of works in the Kurzeme Ring project.

The construction of the transmission line is implementing by the general partnership LEC, RECK and Empower and currently active construction works are taking place in stages: Ventspils – Dundaga, Tukums – Ķemeri, Sloka – Dzintari and Priedaine – Imanta. The total line length is 214 km, total costs – 127 million euros, of which 55 million euros are co-financed by the European Union.

Construction works of the power line have been started in summer 2017. The third stage of the "Kurzeme Ring" will connect 330kV substations "Ventspils" in Venstpils and "Imanta" in Riga, crossing Ventspils city, Ventspils, Dundaga, Talsi, Kandava, Tukums, Engure and Babītes municipalities, as well as the territories of Jūrmala and Riga cities. The first two stages of the "Kurzeme Ring" – construction of a 330 kV power transmission cable line in Riga and reconstruction of existing110kV power transmission line in stage Grobiņa – Ventspils, strengthening with 330 kV line – have already been implemented.

In general, the new power transmission line will remain within the borders of the existing power transmission lines. To provide the necessary distances from buildings, roads, crossed communications, nature protection territories and historic cultural monuments, the line could be constructed by forming a new route in separate locations. In total the power line route will cross more than 1500 land properties.
